- Walkerburn - The Old Mill Bell & "The Wee Man"/ On the left is the original staute from the War/ Memorial. Constructed in 1921 by public subscription,/ it is smaller than life size and became known as the/ "Wee Man". It remained in place at the War Memorial/ further up the road until it was stolen on the 9th August/ 1998. A new statue was again funded by public/ subscription and this life size replacement dedicated by/ HRH The Princess Royal on Monday 20th September/ 1999, now occupies the War Memorial. The "Wee Man"/ was found and returned on 3rd February 2000./ Following renovation, again funded by public/ subscription, it was placed in this site on 2nd December/ 2001./ The Mill Bell comes from the original Walkerburn Mill./ It was rung to summon workers to the mill and to signal/ lunch breaks and the ned of the working day. The bell is/ on loan to Walkerburn & District Community Council/ from Robert Noble Ltd. of Peebles./ This Memorial site was funded by public subscription/ and was dedicated by Miss Mollie McIntosh MBE,/ chairman of Walkerburn & District Community/ Council, on 9th August 2002. These two items represent/ a significant part of Walkerburn's history and this site/ is for the benefit of the residents of the village plus all/ those not yet privileged to live in Walkerburn.
