IN MEMORY OF/ JAMES BELL, PRIEST, CANON OF LINCOLN / RECTOR OF THIS PARISH 1893 TO 1910 / WHO DIED IN LINCOLN 3RD APRIL 1918 AGED 70, / ALSO IN MEMORY OF / CHARLES HENRY BELL, PRIEST, HIS SON, / WHO, AFTER SERVING AS A CURATE IN LEEDS / WAS ATTACHED AS CHAPLAIN TO THE 1ST BATT. THE ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGT. / AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION SOUTH OF ARRAS IN FRANCE / WHILE HELPING THE WOUNDED 23RD AUGUST 1918 AGED 30. / HE WAS BURIED AT DOUCHY LES AYETTE./ "HIS SERVANTS SHALL SERVE HIM AND THEY SHALL SEE HIS FACE."
