Description
The memorial stands within a triangular plot of ground surrounded by a granolithic walkway which is enclosed with ornamental wrought-iron railings. The First World War names are inscribed on the main plinth in raised lead lettering. The dedicatory inscription is on a panel on one face of the plinth. This is a polished tablet with the letters raised from the background. Surmounting the plinth is the main pillar of the memorial. On each side is a pilaster and on the base of the front side is an enlarged carving of the burgh seal. Surmounting the pillar is a sculpture of a Royal Scots Fusilier, larger than life size, and in the 'on guard' position. There was originally an octagonal base, probably removed to make room for the WW2 names. The Second World War names are inscribed on the front face of the base of the memorial.
