- Description
- Large polished, wall-mounted brass plaque with incised designs and lettering. The pilasters are castellated at the top, and the castellation is continued between them. At the bottom the pilasters are linked by a border of alternating crosses and quatrefoils. The pilasters are fluted, and interrupted with various architectural designs. The panel bearing the inscriptions is flat-polished, and contained within a Gothic arch with a trefoil finial, within which is the device of the town - a ram's head. To each side of this are two red-painted Roses of Lancaster, set on a background of quatrefoils within squares, with the appearance of a diamond pattern. Above the inscriptions is a laurel wreath against a pair of crossed rifles, with a further design, difficult to interpret, at its centre. The incised inscription is painted black, with the significant initial letters and the dates rubricated.
