Description
Firstly: A brass plaque set into a sandstone frame in the North wall of the sanctuary. It has a border of climbing red roses of Lancaster, with green leaves and stalks. On the left of the title of the dedication is the badge of the man's Regiment, while his family crest is to the right. The inscription and designs are incised and painted. Secondly: A plain battlefield cross with an embossed metal strip across the cross-piece carrying the inscription. There is evidence that a cemetery position marker was above, on the down piece. There is a damaged white enamelled metal roundel attached below the cross piece which has the red rose of Lancaster at its centre and the motto of the 55th (West Lancashire) Division around the outside between green rings. This 'cocarde de souvenir' was placed on the graves of all the men from the Division, and was funded by an appeal, The Grave Identification Fund, launched among the surviving officers and men in August 1918. They were priced at 2 shillings (10p) each. Thirdly: A glazed wooden picture frame containing a photographic portrait of Capt. Collingwood above a photograph of his original battlefield grave marker - which may have been damaged when the Germans took the area of the cemetery in the 1918 Spring offensive. His grave is shown as having a picket fence around it.
