- RECTANGULAR WHITE MARBLE INSCRIPTION TABLET MOUNTED ONTO A DARK COLOURED MARBLE BACKBOARD. INSCRIPTION IN BLACK LETTERING. BADGE OF THE BUFFS CARVED IN RELIEF AT THE TOP LEFT OF THE TABLET AND BADGE OF THE NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS CARVED IN RELIEF AT THE TOP RIGHT OF THE TABLET.

- TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN PROUD AND EVER LOVING/ MEMORY OF/ GEORGE MARSDEN POPPLE/ 2ND LIEUT. 15TH ATTD. 16TH BATT./ NORTHUMBERLAND FUSLIERS,/ YOUNGEST SON OF JAMES POPPLE OF CASTLETHORPE,/ AND MARY ELIZABETH HIS WIFE,/ HE ENLISTED AT HIS COUNTRY'S CALL AUGUST 1914/ WITH THE WYE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE CONTINGENT/ IN THE 5TH BUFFS AND SERVED WITH THEM IN INDIA AND MESOPOTAMIA,/ HE WAS GAZETTED AS 2ND LIEUT. IN THE 15TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS/ AND WAS KILLED WHILE SERVING WITH HIS REGIMENT IN FRANCE/ 26TH JUNE 1916 NEAR AUTHUILLE WHERE HE IS BURIED/ AGED 21 YEARS./ "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN/ LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS."
