WHITE MARBLE INSCRIPTION TABLET SURMOUNTED BY A CORNICE AND MOUNTED ONTO A BLACK MARBLE BACKBOARD. ISNCRIPTION IN BLACK LETTERING. HAT AND SHEATHED SWORD CARVED IN RELIEF ABOVE THE CORNICE.

IN MEMORY OF/ ARTHUR HARDOLPH EYRE,/ LIEUTENANT 90TH INFANTRY:/ WHO HAVING SERVED THROUGHOUT THE ASHANTEE EXPEDITION,/ IN WHICH HE EVINCED/ THE NOBLE COURAGE HEREDITARY IN HIS FAMILY,/ WAS KILLED WHILST LEADING THE ADVANCED GUARD/IN THE LAST DAYS FIGHTING BEFORE COOMASSIE,/ 4TH FEBRUARY 1874,/ IN THE 24TH YEAR OF HIS AGE./ ERECTED/ BY HIS MESSMATES AND BROTHER OFFICERS/ OF WOOD'S REGIMENT.
