- A COMMEMORATIVE GARDEN INCORPORATING A "CHAUTARA", A TRADITIONAL GURKHA RESTING PLACE, WITH A LOW STONE WALL. A CENTRAL STONE TABLET HAS AN ENGRAVED INSCRIPTION AND IS FLANKED BY TABLETS ENGRAVED WITH THE INSIGNIA OF TWELVE GURKHA REGIMENTS, WITH THE WORDS "IN MEMORY". THERE IS AN INFORMATION BOARD ALONGSIDE THE CHAUTARA WITH ILLUSTRATIONS ACCOMPANYING THE TEXT.

FOR WEARY/ TRAVELLERS IN NEPAL, THIS STONE STRUCTURE - A CHAUTARA - HAS OFFERED WELCOME/ RELIEF ALONG MAIN ROUTES OF FOOTHILLS FOR CENTURIES. THE STEPPED DESIGN ALLOWS / NEPALESE BASKETS (CALLED 'DHOKAS') TO BE LIFTED WITH EASE./ OFTEN A CHAUTARA IS BUILT IN MEMORY OF A LOVED ONE. OURS IS DEDICATED TO SIR/ HORACE KADOORIE (1902-1995) WHO SUPPORTED THE NATIVE KURKHA HOMELAND./ WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL TO HIS KADOORIE FOUNDATION AND THE GURKHA REGIMENTS/ WHOSE GENEROUS SUPPORT IN 1997 MADE OUR MEMORIAL POSSIBLE. OUR/ CHAUTARA DISPLAYS REGIMENTAL BADGES FROM 12 GURKHA REGIMENTS AROUND/ THE EDGE.
