- Description
- MARBLE PLAQUE WITH SCULPTURED FIGURE IN SILHOUETTE IN HIGH RELIEF ALONG THE BOTTOM HALF. THE FIGURE IS THE DEAD BODY OF AN OFFICER (PRESUMABLY WITH THE FACE OF THE DEAD MAN) LYING ON HIS BACK, ARMS BY HIS SIDE. HE IS DRESSED IN SHIRT SLEEVES (ROLLED UP), BRACES, TROUSERS AND BOOTS. HIS HEAD RESTS ON A CUSHION SURROUNDED BY A LAUREL WREATH. THE INSCRIPTION IS IN INCISED WHITE LETTERING ALONG THE TOP HALF OF THE PLAQUE.
