- Description
- A two-stepped, square base surmounted by a square plinth and small sculpture of an aircraft and small seated figure of Group Captain P. Townsend. The seated figure is set into a dark stone slab with a hurricane at the top of the slab soaring skywards above his head. The dedication is on the sides of the plinth.

- Northeast face: DEDICATED BY/ HILREED HOMES/ AND UNVEILED ON THE 21ST MAY 2002./ IN RECOGNITION OF/ GROUP CAPTAIN PETER TOWNSEND/ AND ALL THE BRAVE AIRMEN/ WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY FROM/ WEST MALLING AIRFIELD/ DURING WORLD WAR II. Southeast face: THIS MEMORIAL MARKS/ THE SITE OF THE RUNWAY/ WHICH WAS OPERTATIONAL/ BETWEEN 1908 TO 1994. Northwest face: THE WEST MALLING RAF/MOTTO IS/ "WE GUARD THE GATE."/ WE THANK THEM ALL/ FOR THEIR DEDICATION/ AND OUR FREEDOM TODAY.
