IN MEMORY OF LIEUT.-GENERAL THE HON. THOMAS TOLLEMACHE, AND ALSO ENSIGN LYONEL ROBERT TOLLEMACHE. LIEUT.-GENERAL TOLLEMACHE, THE SON OF SIR LYONEL TOLLEMACHE AND ELIZABETH, COUNTESS OF DYSART IN HER OWN RIGHT, HAVING SERVED WITH DISTINCTION FOR SEVERAL YEARS, ON 1ST MAY, 1689, WAS APPOINTED COLONEL OF THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS. AT THE BATTLE OF LANDEN, 19TH JULY, 1693, HE COMMANDED THE INFANTRY; AND IN 1694, WAS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE EXPEDITION AGAINST BREST, DEFENDED BY THE FRENCH UNDER MARSHAL VAUBAN, AND BEING MORTALLY WOUNDED 8TH JUNE, DIED AT PLYMOUTH FOUR DAYS AFTER. ENSIGN TOLLEMACHE JOINED THE 1ST GUARDS 28TH JUNE, 1791, AND WAS KILLED AT THE SEIGE OF VALENCIENNES, 16TH OCTOBER, 1793, IN THE NINETEENTH YEAR OF HIS AGE. PLACED BY WILLIAM JOHN MANNERS TOLLEMACHE, 9TH EARL OF DYSART, AND BY JOHN TOLLEMACHE, 1ST LORD TOLLEMACHE OF HELMINGHAM.
