- Brass plaque mounted onto a black stone backboard with moulded border. Incised inscription in enamelled white lettering.
- Inscription
- Erected by the Officers, Non-commissioned Officers and Men/ of The King's Own Scottish Borderers./ In Memory of their comrade/ COLOUR SERGEANT GEORGE TICKLE ARMSTRONG/ who was born 9th July 1870, at Newcastle-upon-Tyne,/ and fell in action at Karree Siding, South Africa 29th March 1900,/ while carrying a wounded comrade out of the firing line./ He served in Egypt in 1888, in the Relief of Chitral 1895/ and at the storming of the Malakand Pass;/ also in the Tirah Campaign, where for his heroic and brave actions/ he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal./ He died deeply regretted by all his comrades./ "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
