- A simple rectangular brass plaque, with small floral design in each of the four corners, and dedication written in the centre. THE INSTITUTE WAS FOUNDED BY MISS MABEL CAROLINE CARMICHAEL-WALKER OBE AND HER SISTER MISS ELLEN GERTRUDE CARMICHAEL-WALKER IN 1908 AND WAS MANAGED BY THEM FOR 40 YEARS./ THEY WERE THE DAUGHTERS OF SIR GEORGE GUSTAVUS WALKER K.C.B., A.D.C TO QUEEN VICTORIA, M.A., M.P., D.L. AND COLONEL. THE INSTITUTE WAS A GROUP OF 4 HOUSES WHICH WERE CONVERTED INTO ACCOMODATION FOR SERVICEMEN AND CONTINUED UNTIL 1987 WHEN THE CHARITY COMMISSIONERS APPOINTED TRUSTEES TO MANAGE THE PROPERTY.
