- TOP PLAQUE: 1914-1918/ SUVLA JERUSALEM/ IN HONOUR OF THE OFFICERS,NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEN/OF THE 2ND/10TH BATTALION/THE MIDDLESEX REGIMENT (THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE'S OWN)/WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR IN GALLIPOLI AND IN PALESTINE. LOWER PLAQUE: THIS CROSS, OF WOOD MADE FROM THE MOUNT OF OLIVES, WAS FASHIONED WITH THEIR CLASP KNIVES, BY SOLDIERS OF THE 2/10TH BATTALION, THE MIDDLESEX REGIMENT IN 1917. IT WAS USED BY THEIR CHAPLAIN, CANON T W TAYLOR DURING THE WAR AND, IN 1966, WAS EMBODIED IN THIS MEMORIAL.
