Description
Tapered square pillar with plain double cornice and flat top. Niches on left and right hand sides at the top. Metal name plaques inset into each of the four sides. Half colliery winding wheel from Cortonwood Colliery set as a backdrop to the pillar. It originally had two bronze figures inset into opposite niches of the monument. Laurel wreath carving at the top. Two bronze figures of a miner and a soldier were cast at Rotherham College in 1991. These are placed in the niches for Remembrance Day but are otherwise kept elsewhere for safe keeping.
