Rectangular brass plaque mounted on a dark stone backboard. Incised inscription in black lettering, with a foliate design border and a sheild on the left side.

IN LOVING MEMORY/ OF HENRY SPARKE STABB/ COLONEL ON THE STAFF COMMANDING THE TROOPS IN NATAL AND ZULULAND./ HE SERVED FOR THIRTY YEARS IN THE 32ND L.I./ NOW THE 1ST BATTALION THE DUKE OF CORNWALLS LIGHT INFANTRY OF WHICH HE WAS THE/ ADJUTANT DURING THE INDIAN MUTINY AND WHICH HE COMMANDED FROM 1881 TO 1888./ HE DIED AT PEITERMARITZBURG ON THE 22ND OCTOBER 1888 AGED 53 YEARS FROM THE/ EFFECTS OF HIS DEVOTION TO DUTY AND THE SUPPRESSION OF THE ZULU REBELLION OF THAT YEAR/ "IN MUCH PATIENCE AND TUMULTS IN LABOUR IN WATCHINGS BY KINDNESS" 2 COR VI 4/ "COUNTED FAITHFUL" NEH.XIII.13
