Description
A granite wall with a dedicatory stone tablet mounted onto the front face and an additional stone tablet set onto the rear face. Two flag poles surmount the wall. The whole is within an oval garden.

Tablet, front face of the wall: "FOR FREEDOM"/ THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED TO/ COMMEMORATE THE SAILING FROM THIS PORT, ON 3RD JUNE 1944, OF AN/ AMPHIBIOUS FORCE OF 485/ SHIPS OF THE UNITED STTES NAVY/ TO TAKE PART IN THE INVASION OF/ NORMANDY AND THE LIBERATION/ OF THE OPPRESSED COUNTRIES/ OF NORTH WEST EUROPE./ I THE LORD WILL HOLD THY RIGHT/ HAND, SAYING UNTO THEE/ "FEAR NOT: I WILL HELP THEE"/ ISA.XLI.13/ UNVEILED ON JULY 12TH 1954, BY H.R.H.
