Description
A shield shaped white marble tablet mounted on a rectangular pink marble backboard with a sloping top . Above the tablet on the backboard is a badge in white marble carved in low relief featuring a heraldic beast, possibly a griffon , and a motto , probably that of the Grantham family. At the top of the shield is a trophy of arms with crossed unsheathed swords and the badge of the Royal Munster Fusiliers carved in white marble in low relief .The Inscription is incised and coloured black . At the bottom of the shield is the badge of the Essex Regiment carved in low relief and in white marble .

ROYAL MUNSTER FUSILIERS/ BORN 10TH JULY 1870, KILLED LEADING HIS COMPANY/ INTO ACTION ON THE MORNING OF MAY 9TH 1915/ NEAR RICHEBOURG L'AVOUE/ AND OF HIS ELDEST SON/ HUGO FREDERICK GRANTHAM/ 2ND LIEUT 1ST BATT, ESSEX REGT/ BORN 15TH APRIL 1895, KILLED IN AN HEROIC / ATTACK ON A TURKISH POSITION ON THE/ PENINSULA OF GALLIPOLI IN THE EVENING/ OF JUNE 28TH 1915./ "FROM FLEETING WARS OF HUMAN BEINGS/ TO THE ETERNAL PEACE OF GOD."
