- Description
- A brick wall to which is fixed nine rectangular brass plaques ,longer about the vertical axis .The names and dedication are in raised letters against a background of black enamel .The names were originally on cast iron plaques fixed to protective railings round cherry trees which formed the Avenue of Remembrance created in 1933 . Many of the plaques were removed as souvenirs or stolen for scrap and a number of those which remained are now in a display case on the Colchester Town Hall foyer . This memorial was created in 1958 as a response to the loss and replacement for the original cast iron plaques . Many of the names have no direct military connection and only the names of those who served in the armed forces are recorded here .
