Reference
  • John o' Groat Journal - Thursday 08 November 1883 - Cross is based on the seventh Century Gosforth Cross. The whole is in one block of dark red granite, 18 feet long, richly carved with runic scrolls, following the best examples. The trunk of the cross resembles that of Gosforth, and its head, with circular ring, is tastefully ornamented with Celtic symbols of the Trinity. The structure has been erected upon a cairn of rough grey granite blocks, 7 feet high, into which is set a massive red granite panel, with an appropriate inscription in polished letter, surmounted by Mrs Macdonald's crest and coat of arms.
