THIS MEMORIAL, THE GIFT OF THE CITIZENS OF THE DUTCH TOWN OF WAALWIJK COMMEMORATES THEIR/ LIBERATION BY THE 2ND & 5TH SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS AND THE 5TH Q.O. CAMERON HIGHLANDERS OF/ THE 51ST HIGHLAND DIVISION ON 30TH OCTOBER 1944. IT WAS UNVEILED BY THE BURGERMEISTER OF WAALWIJK MR ROBERT VAN SHONK ON 29TH OCTOBER 1995. A MEMORIAL TO MARK THE SAME OCCASION WAS UNVEILED ON THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF VICTORY IN EUROPE/ DAY OUTSIDE A CHAPEL BUILT TO INDICATE THE PLACE WHERE THE SEAFORTH AND CAMERONS ENTERED WAALWIJK IN 1944./ THE WAALWIJK PIPE BANNER WAS PRESENTED TO THE 2ND BATTALION THE 51ST HIGHLAND VOLUNTEERS, NOW 2ND BATTALION THE/ HIGHLANDERS IN 1984, THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TOWN'S LIBERATION
