Description
Wall-mounted launcet-shaped Binnie free stone tablet. Incised black lettering. brackets at top and base to affix tablet to wall. With an inlaid marble Crest and Coat of Arms of Major Cook's branch of the family, motto - " TUTUM MONSTRAT ITER"

IN MEMORY OF/ MAJOR JOHN COOK V.C./ BENGAL STAFF CORPS. 5TH GOORKHA REGIMENT/ WHO/ AFTER A DISTINGUISHED CAREER AS A SOLDIER/ WAS MORTALLY WOUNDED IN THE ATTACK/ ON THE TAKHT-I SHAHR PEAK ON DECEMBER 12/ AND DIED AT KABUL ON DECEMBER 19 1879/ IN THE THIRTY-SEVENTH YEAR OF HIS AGE./ THIS MEMORIAL/ IS ERECTED BY HIS/ SURVIVING BROTHERS AND SISTERS/ IN A PLACE LONG ASSOCIATED/ WITH HIS RACE AND NAME.
