- Description
- Two-stepped base surmounted by plinth, cornice and obelisk; the south face of the obelisk has a relief-carved wreath. The 6 o'clock face of the memorial bears the dedicatory inscription in black lettering on the plinth, and a white tablet inscribed re Joseph Henry Collin VC; the names of the casualties on the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock faces are mainly in black lettering. (The names of James Henry Collin and Korean War casualty Simpson Grears being in gilt lettering). The memorial is surrounded by iron railings.

- (6 o'clock face of plinth): 1914 - 1918/ IN/ HONOUR/ OF/ THE MEN OF/ HARRABY/ AND/ DISTRICT/ WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR (White metal plaque on 6 o’clock face of obelisk): Lieut Joseph Henry Collin,/ VC (Posthumous)/ Lived at 8 Petteril Terrace,/ Harraby, Carlisle./ Killed in action in France 9-4-18/ Awarded the VC for heroic gallantry/ in battle at Givenchy. He gave his life under fire/ to save his men./ He disabled an enemy machine/ gun nest then and kept shooting to enable his/ men to escape to safety/He sustained head wounds and died shortly after./ A street in Carlisle is named in his honour/ Collin Place (3 o'clock and 9 o'clock faces): (names)
