- Description
- Four separate books of remembrance, each in its own glass fronted Oak Cabinet, one for WW1 (in tabular format, in Old English calligraphy), one for WW2 (in tabular format), one for the Border Regiment deaths & events until merger into the King's Own Royal Border Regiment (KORBR) in 1959 (in narrative format; this continues for events to the current date) and the fourth for all KORBR deaths in service since 1959 to date (in tabular format continues beyond the 2006 merger into the Duke of Lancaster's regiment, but these entries are in narrative format). The WW1 book is bound in Cape Levant red morocco, sewn flexibly on double cords to allow perfect strength and freedom in opening. On the upper cover in the centre within a sunk mount is a replica of the Regimental badge enlarged, chased in bronze and finely engraved. This is attached to the cover of the book with strong rivets. Surrounding it, tooled in gold and blind work is a large laurel wreath surrounded by the royal crown. The WW1, WW2 and KORBR books are in a row on the south side of the chapel, the post WW2 Border Regiment book is underneath the Colonels/VC's memorial- memorial 66975. The WW1 book was made of vellum-wove hand made paper, bound in Cape Levant Morocco Leather. On the front cover is a replica of the Border Regiment badge, chased in bronze.
