- STONE TABLET WITH INSCRIPTION. CARVED DRAPES AT THE TOP OF THE TABLET. BELOW THE INSCRIPTION IS A THREE MASTED SHIP STRIKING ANOTHER VESSEL AMIDSHIPS ON THE PORT SIDE IN A TURBULENT SEA. THIS VESSEL IS KEELING OVER TO STARBOARD. AT THE BASE IS THE REGIMENTAL BADGE OF THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS

- THIS STONE IS ERECTED IN MEMORY OF/ EDWRD NOEL LONG/ ENSIGN IN THE COLDSTREAM REGIMENT OF FOOT GUARDS,/ ELDEST SON OF EDWARD BEESTON LONG, OF THIS PARISH/ HE WAS BORN MARCH 22ND 1788,/ AND ON HIS VOYAGE TO JOIN THE BRITISH FORCES IN SPAIN,/ HE, WITH OTHERS OF THE REGIMENT,/ PERISHED IN THE OCEAN NEAR CAPE ST VINCENT,/ DURING THE CONFUSION OF A FATAL ACCIDENT,/ OCCASIONED BY THE ISIS MAN OF WAR/ FALLING ON BOARD THE TRANSPORT WHEREIN HE WAS EMBARKED/ THE NIGHT OF THE 8TH OF MARCH/ 1809./ THE EXCELLENT QUALITIES OF HIS HEAD AND HEART,/ WHICH SO DEEPLY ENDEARED HIM TO HIS RELATIONS,/ AND TO HIS MANY YOUTHFUL COMPANIONS,/ HAVE BEEN THUS COMMEMORATED/ BY HIS EARLY FRIEND AND SCHOOLFELLOW./ NOW LAST, BUT NEAREST OF THE SOCIAL HAND,/ SEE, HONEST, OPEN, GENEROUS CLEON STAND,/ WITH SCARCE ON SPECK.
