Description
Highly decorative Gate of Remembrance leading from the ante-Chapel to the Chapel. Entire structure surmounted by a bronze figure of Christ descended from the cross with open arms. Below this is an alabaster tablet of the Divine Mother, representing the sacrifice of all Mothers who suffered loss. Surmounting the gates is a bronze group standing triumphant upon the dragon, consisting of St George with belted sword and two angels, symbolic of the conflict with evil. The belted sword represents an end to the conflict. On his right an Angel presents a youth to him, another on the left offers a garland of glory. Above the gate is heraldic work in painted alabaster: Central Medallion of Virgin and Child flanked by arms of United Kingdom, Skinners Company and the School, Rochester and Canterbury. Flanking the gates are twelve name panels.
