- OBELISK WITH SPREADING BASE SET ON A PAVED PLATFORM. BASE IS SUBDIVIDED INTO FOUR STAGES. LOWEST OF THESE HAS DIES CARVED WITH FESTOONS SYMBOLISING THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE WORLD. TOPMOST HAS SYMBOLIC SCULPTURE, AS BELOW. MARBLE PANELS DEPICT: (1) VICTORY. SINGLE WINGED FIGURE WITH A PALM BRANCH. (2) DUTY. OFFICER WITH SAPPER AND DRIVER ON EITHER SIDE. (3) SERVICE. BRITANNIA WITH FIGURES OF YOUR AND MAIDEN REPRESENTING MANHOOD AND WOMANHOOD COMING FORWARDING SUPPORT. TWO PANELS LISTING CONFLICTS SERVED IN. (4) SACRIFICE. YOUTH CLASPING A SWORD SYMBOLISING DEDICATION TO THE SACRIFICE, WITH FIGURES ON EITHER SIDE OF RESIGNATION AND HOPE.
