Description
Illuminated book of remembrance set in purpose-made case in a niche. The back of the niche has a tablet of green marble with a wooden crucifix. The wooden frame has inscriptions at top and bottom. The title page refers to a window - this is recorded as 40171.

Top of wooden frame: 1914 To the fallen 1918 Title page:- To The / Glorious Memory of the / Men of Petworth / who laid down their lives in the / GREAT WAR. / This Window & Crucifix / are dedicated by their/ fellow townsmen. // Jesu Mercy. // “They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. / Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. / At the going down of the sun and in the morning / We will remember them.” // Opposite the title page:- IN THIS BOOK / are also inscribed the names / of the pupils and staff of/ PETWORTH BOYS SCHOOL / who were killed by enemy action / on St Michael's Day/ September 29th 1939 / together with the names of those / who gave their lives on active service / in the/ SECOND WORLD WAR/ 1939 – 1945.
