Description
An illuminated, hand-gilded Roll of Honour in a glazed black frame, commemorating X Division's officers who died on active service or as a result of enemy action and/or were decorated for gallantry in World War 2. (N.B.: IWM does not yet have a photograph of this Roll of Honour, and there is conflicting evidence regarding the number of officers commemorated on it: IWM was advised in the past that it lists 59 officers, 36 of whom died; a press report on 3/11/1945 implied that the Roll listed 67 fatalities, plus 8 survivors who had been decorated for gallantry; the Metropolitan Police At War book recorded 33 Regular/War Reserve officers of X Division who died in WW2. The true number of officers recorded on the Roll, and how many of them it listed as having died and/or been decorated, has therefore yet to be established).
