History
The memorial was first restored in 1951 by Messrs Wray & Fuller. It was restored again in 1996, funded by Veterans Association, members of the public and the Stevenage Borough Council. In 2014 the Stevenage Borough Council, in partnership with the Stevenage Branch of the Royal British Legion restored the memorial in the preparation for the centenary of the First World War. The work included refurbishment of the bronze name plaques, the carving and installation of new friezes to replace those that have weathered, cleaning and repointing of the memorial, renewing the gravel at the base, a new tabernacle and flag pole and new bollards to the Bowling Green.
