- Description
- South transept forms the Memorial Chapel. East window memorial to 1914-1918 dead, represents triumphant conquest of suffering. Christ on the Cross is alive. On his face the light of victory, on his brow the crown of Glory, not of thorns. His wounds radiate Glory. His hand, though nailed, outstretched in blessing. Around him, grouped in adoration, The Virgin Mary (women), St. Nicholas (sailors), the Centurion (soldiers), St. Luke (medicine). Above are emblems & Coats of Arms of regiments in which Rushden men served. Names inscribed on panelling. Names of 1939-45 casualties on panels. Total of 24 gold coloured painted wooden insets in the wood-panelled walls of the Memorial Chapel. WW1 inscription in form of hangings painted on panel.
