IN MEMORY OF/ LT. COL DAVID WILLIAMS/ COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE 5TH BENGAL REGIMENT WHO DIED AT MEEAN-MEER ON 10TH JULY 1852 AGED 51 YEARS WHERE HIS BROTHER OFFICERS ERECTED A TOMB OVER HIS REMAINS. TO BE RECORDED IN LASTING MEMORIAL OF HIS WORTH HE SERVED IN AVA AND AT BHURTPOOR AND RECEIVED A MEDAL WITH TWO CLASPS. ALSO UNDER LORD COUCH AT THE BATTLES OF CHILIAN WALE AND COOCERAT FOR WHICH HE HAD ANOTHER MEDAL AND CLASP AND HIS COMMAND WAS FAVOURABLY NOTICED BY HIS GENERAL. (EXACT LINE SPACING UNKNOWN)
