- Morpeth Herald 10/9/1948 (page 1) reported that the memorial had been unveiled the previous Sunday, on the lawn of the Northumberland Constabulary Police HQ at Morpeth. The report included a photograph of the ceremony, stated that the granite stone was from the Midgeholme Quarry on the Northumberland/Cumbria border, and listed attendees. www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000344/19480910/002/0001
- The North East War Memorials Project ( newmp.org.uk/detail.php?contentId=9426 ) has images of the 1948 unveiling ceremony, of the memorial pre 1971 on the lawn at Morpeth, and also at Ponteland. (Those latter images at Ponteland, unlike the 2010 images attached, show a wooden bench positioned on either side of the memorial).
