Description
Decorated cross on plinth with three stepped shoulders. On a stepped base with side piers and end blocks. Cast metal plaques with names on end blocks (WW1) and side piers (WW2). Head of the cross carved on both sides with never ending interlaced rope ornaments representing eternity. Front of the shaft carved to represent the main trunk of a tree. At the bottom two leverets representing Belgium feed among the roots. Swooping down are two birds of prey (Germany and Austria) two rats representing the horrors of war. Squirrels with oak leaves and acorns represent the British Empire. Two owls represent the wisdom of God, and the whole is surmounted by the dove of peace.
