Description
GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE WITH DEDICATORY STONE ARCHWAY WITH BRONZE GATES. DEDICATORY INSCRIPTION IN BRONZE LETTERING WREATH CARVED IN RELIEF AT THE TOP CENTRE OF THE ARCHWAY. Inside the gateway is a rough boulder with smooth front face telling of the 2005 restoration of the park and the opening, with incised lettering in Roman lower case. A notice has been fixed to the gate asking people to respect the park Also inside the gate is a concrete wreath, resting against a column, with the words on the column "A voice forever stilled/A/Memory" seem through the wreath. (This was removed in 2015, and replaced with a tablet naming post 1945 conflicts in two columns). In 2015 two walls of Remembrance were added, naming WW1 & WW2 casualties. The WW1 wall (to the left) has three panels. The central panel contains the exhortation. Those on each side carry the names in three columns on each. Underneath are incised the badges of the Army, Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and the RAF. The WW1 wall (to the right) also has three panels. The central panel contains the Kohima epitaph. The two outer panels contain the names in two columns on each. Underneath are incised the badges of the Army, Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and the RAF. On both walls the lettering is incised using Roman lower case lettering.
