Condition
History
By 2016 the stone and bronze were both discoloured, and the rod securing the Victory figure to the column was damaged threatening the stability of the memorial. The War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £1195 to the Knottingley War Memorial Restoration Fund in 2016 for a professional survey, followed in 2018 with a £19,000 grant for the works, which were completed in 2019. The original metal dowel fixing was replaced with a non ferrous equivalent, the memorial steam cleaned, the bronzework repatinated, and a protective microcrystalline wax applied. The lead lettering was also repaired and repainted; SURVEYED BY WAKEFIELD District Council, 5 MAY 1999. REPAIRS REQUIRED TO SURROUNDING PAVED AREA
