Brewery Company's War Memorial An artistic mural war memorial has been erected in the front of the offices of the Lichfield Brewery Co. Ltd., in memory of the thirteen employees of tiie company who made the great sacrifice in the war. The memorial consists of a beautiful tablet executed bv Messrs. Bridgeman and Sons, Lichfield, and is carved out of Hopton Wood stone, with the lettering filled in with lead, to ensure its permanency. The nainete comprise thirteen workmen and clerks, ten being old Lichfield men. and three employees at the company's Leicester agency. Headed by the words "Pro Patria," the tablet reads:— In honour of the employees of this Brewery who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914-1919. (names) The unveiling ceremony was performed on Friday Mr. T. Levett-Prinsep (Chairman of the Directors), in the presence of his fellow directors and large number of employees of the company. Mr. Prinsep said he was glad to unveil that tablet as a tribute to the brave men who had given tlieir lives to save Britain and the world from the menace of German invasion, and he felt sure that the tablet would be a constant reminder to those who were left and those in years to come who would see it. of the devotion and self sacrifice which the good fellows whose names were inscribed on the tablet had given such a glorious example.

  • A Century of British Brewers plus plus 1890-2012 by Norman Barber, Mike Brown and Ken Smith p.138 Published:Longfield Brewery History Society 2012 Longfield, Kent Lichfield Brewery Co Ltd was acquired by Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd of Burton in 1930. Brewing ceased, but the company continued to run PHs, supplied from Burton, until 1935. The offices remain.
