Description
Base surmounted by pedestal and cast figures of a hooded female figure supporting a wounded soldier, to whom a naked youth offers a laurel wreath. Dedicatory inscription carved onto the front face of the pedestal and names cast on bronze plaques on the sides. The cowled figure of death supports a soldier with a young boy symbolising posterity offering a laurel wreath in tribute to the soldier. At their feet is a helmet and gun, and the soldier crushes a serpent underfoot. Wreath attached to the 3 and 9 o'clock sides above the plaque. Whole is enclosed by low railings

6 O'Clock Face: TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD/ ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF ALLERTON & DAISY HILL TO THE SACRED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918/ THE LAND THEY LOVED SHALL/ WEAR THE FADELESS CROWN/ HER WARRIORS GAVE HER/ WHEN WRAPPED IN DEATH'S DARK/ CLOUD. THEY LAID THEM DOWN/ DYING TO SAVE HER/ YET BEING DEAD THEY DIE NOT/ IN THE THE GRAVE THO' THEY BE LYING/ THESE BEING THE SOULS TO WHOM/ HIGH VALOUR GAVE GLORY UNDYING THIS TABLET COMMEMORATES THOSE WHO/ GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR 1939 - 1945/ (Names) 3 and9 O'Clock Face: (Names)
