- A Century of British Brewers plus plus 1890-2012 by Norman Barber, Mike Brown and Ken Smith pp.72,73,75. Published:Longfield Brewery History Society 2012 Longfield, Kent Rigden & Co. merged with George Beer of the Star Brewery Canterbury in 1922 As George Beer & Rigden Ltd they were taken over in 1948 by Fremlins Ltd of Maidstone. Brewing ceased in 1954, but recommenced in 1961, coming under the control of Whitbread which acquired Fremlins in 1968. Brewery closed in 1990, but building remain intact.
