DEVONSHIRE GREEN/ THIS OPEN SPACE IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF/ THOSE CITIZENS OF SHEFFIELD WHO DIED ON THE NIGHTS/ OF THE 12TH, 13TH AND 15TH DECEMBER 1940/ DURING AERIAL BOMBARDMENT OF THE CITY IN THE/ SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-45/ THIS STAND OF FIVE TREES WAS PLANTED BY/ THE LORD MAYOR OF SHEFFIELD/ (COUNCILLOR W.OWEN J.P.)/ ON THE 14TH DECEMBER 1980/ TO COMMEMORATE THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RAIDS
