- THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE OFFICERS, NON-COM OFFICERS AND PRIVATES OF THE THREE ROBIN HOOD BATTALIONS OF THE SHERWOOD FORESTERS WHO AT THE CALL OF KING & COUNTRY LEFT ALL THAT WAS DEAR TO THEM, FACED PERIL, ENDURED HARDNESS & GAVE THEIR OWN LIVES THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE.
