History
In 2018, a grant of £31,280 was awarded towards substantial works to some of the war memorials within Poole Park which were being undertaken by the council as part of a wider enhancement of the Park supported by a Heritage Lottery Fund award of £2.7 million. The funds offered came from the Grants for War Memorials scheme supported by Historic England, the First World War Memorials Programme and the Wolfson Foundation. Works were completed in time for a re-dedication service on the 10th November 2018. Works undertaken as part of the war memorial and park project include cleaning of the cross and re-pointing with lime as required. Lime mortar was also used for repairs to the top of the cross. The paving surrounding the cross were also repaired or replaced as required while the steps were re-laid to improve safety. The gates were cleaned and repair works undertaken. A maintenance plan was also prepared to ensure the investment in such substantial works is protected.
