History
An application to the Grants for War Memorials Scheme was received by War Memorials Trust in 2009. This application was towards work to remove moss and vegetation with wooden spatulas and non metallic brushes followed by the whole memorial being steam cleaned. The brass plaque was also to be cleaned and damaged stonework beneath it to be removed and an indent repair carried out along with re-pointing and the fixing of other areas of loose stone using lime mortar and stainless steel pins. Finally the incised World War I inscription was to be re-painted. The Grants for War Memorials Scheme offered a grant of £1,665. However, due to a decrease in costs, this was reduced to a payment of £1,600 upon completion. As an extension to the grant funded works the applicants also replaced the head of the sculpture with a replica produced based on historic photographic evidence available. ; Mytholmroyd war Memorial vandalised on two separate occasions. Rifle broken and head removed in October 1992, but replaced. Fibreglass replacement rifle again removed in November 1996.
