- MAIN PLAQUE: IN MEMORY OF/ GUSTAVUS HAMILTON BLENKINSOPP COULSON, V.C., D.S.O./ LIEUTENANT KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS AND ADJUTANT 7TH MOUNTED INFANTRY REGT/ ONLY SON OF HENRY JOHN WASTELL COULSON OF LYTHE COURT IN THIS PARISH/ KILLED AT LAMBRECHTFONTEIN SOUTH AFRICA ON MAY 19 1901 AGED 22/ HE RECEIVED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER FOR HIS CONDUCT IN THE CAMPAIGN OF 1900/ AND WAS LATER AWARDED THE VICTORIA CROSS FOR CONSPICUOUS GALLANTRY IN THE ACTION/ IN WHICH HE FELL IN SAVING A GUN AND RESCUING A WOUNDED TROOPER UNDER HEAVY FIRE/ WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT.
