Description
FIVE-LIGHT STAINED GLASS WINDOW WITH TRACERY. FIGURES IN EACH LIGHT AND FIVE DEDICATORY VERNON MARBLE TABLETS ARE BELOW THE WINDOW. IN THE TRACERY LIGHTS IS THE SACRED MONOGRAM FLANKED BY THE ROYAL MONOGRAMS OF QUEEN VICTORIA AND KING EDWARD VI. BELOW THESE IS THE BADGE OF THE DEVON REGIMENT. IN THE LARGER OPENINGS BELOW THIS ARE THE ARMS OF AUSTRALIA, INDIA, CANADA AND AFRICA AND BELOW THEM ARE THE BATTLE HONOURS. THE LIGHTS BELOW THIS ARE ANGELS BEARINGING THE SYMBOLS OF CHRISTIAN WARFARE. IN THE MAIN LIGHTS OUR LORD IS DEPICTED IN THE CENTRE LIGHT WITH THE PALM OF VICTORY IN ONE HAND AND THE BANNER OF RESURRECTION IN THE OTHER. HE IS FLANKED BY KING ALFRED, ABRAHAM, JOSHUA AND KING EDWARD 1. IN THE PREDELLA SERIES AT THE BASE OF THE WINDOW IS, LEFT TO RIGHT, KING ALFRED SUBMITTING LAWS TO THE APPROVAL OF HIS WITENAGEMOT; MELCHIZEDEK OFFERING BREAD AND WINE TO ABRAHAM; JOSHUA AND THE ANGEL; PRINCESS ELEANOR VISITING PRINCE EDWARD WHEN SUFFERING FROM THE POISONED WOUND
