(ON WINDOW) TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND/ IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF /CHARLES JOHN CHARD BARRETT,/ CAPTAIN ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS, /KILLED IN ACTION AT HOOGE ON THE 14TH NOVEMBER 1914 AGED 41 YEARS (ON PLAQUE) TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND/ IN VERY LOVING MEMORY OF /CHARLES JOHN CHARD BARRETT,/ CAPTAIN ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS, KILLED IN ACTION AT HOOGE NEAR YPRES ON THE/14TH NOVEMBER 1914 WHILE IN TEMPORARY COMMAND/ OF THE 1ST BATTALION AND WAS LAID TO REST IN /THE GROUNDS OF HERONTHAGE CHATEAU HOOGE,/ MENTIONED IN SIR JOHN/ FRENCH'S DESPATCHES OF/ JANY 14TH 1915 FOR GALLANT AND DISTINGUISHED/ SERVICE IN THE FIELD. BORN 26TH AUGUST 1873 AND /BAPTISED IN THIS CHURCH- HE WAS THE YOUNGEST/ SON OF WILLIAM AND CHARLOTTE BARRETT OF /MOREDON NORTH CURRY./ EDUCATED AT ETON AND THE ROYAL MILITARY /COLLEGE, SANDHURST, SERVED IN THE SOUTH /AFRICAN WAR COMMENCING IN MARCH 1900/ WITH THE OEPRATIONS IN NATAL, THE TRANSVAAL/ AND THE ORANGE RIVER COLONY, AND THE ACTION OF/ RUIDAM, AND GAINED THE QUEEN'S MEDAL WITH THREE CLASPS.// THIS BRASS IS PLACED HERE BY HIS WIFE
