Tall obelisk with stepped top. Large female figure 'of perpendicular design in upper niche on main face, robed and holding up a sword and wreath. Bronze wreath at the back.

The upper level bears the inscription: COURAGE SACRIFICE A stone plaque at the base of the pillar is inscribed: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND TO THE HONOURED/ MEMORY OF MEN/ OF THIS BOROUGH WHO/ MADE THE SUPREME/ SACRIFICE DURING THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918 A stone plaque at the base of the west side of the pillar is inscribed: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND TO THE HONOURED/ MEMORY OF THE MEN/ OF THIS BOROUGH WHO / MADE THE SUPREME/ SACRIFICE DURING THE / GREAT WAR OF/ 1939-1945
