Description
Two-stepped base surmounted by ornate octagonal plinth, shaft and cross. Bronze plaques with inscription set into niches in the plinth. There was a longstanding issue with many of the 248 names having been omitted- so these were added on two additional plaques in the hedge behind in 2011.
Inscription
1914 - 1918/ THE MEN WHOM/ THIS MONUMENT/ COMMEMORATES/ WERE NUMBERED/ AMONG THOSE WHO,/ AT THE CALL OF/ KING AND COUNTRY,/ LEFT ALL THAT WAS/ DEAR TO THEM,/ ENDURED HARDNESS,/ FACED DANGER,/ AND FINALLY PASSED/ OUT OF SIGHT OF MEN/ BY THE PATH OF DUTY/ AND SELF SACRIFICE,/ GIVING UP THEIR OWN/ LIVES/ THAT OTHERS MIGHT/ LIVE IN FREEDOM/ LET THOSE WHO COME/ AFTER SEE TO IT, THAT/ THEIR NAMES/ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.
