Description
A marble nowy headed rectangular tablet , set on a backboard of ebonised wood of similar shape . The tablet is of several types of marble surmounted by a crown and cross within a wreath , both the cross and crown gilded and supported on each side by a haloed angel with furled wings. Below this is part of the dedication on three ribbons . There follows the names in three columns , incised and coloured black . At the base is the remainder of the dedication on a separate rectangular marble tablet . The tablet was likely to have been wall mounted and set between two supporters , that on the left a life size figure of a soldier in battledress with arms reversed and on the right a similar figure in naval uniform , Each figure is set on a platform with a column on each side and at top a pierced canopy . The material is probably alabaster
