- Description
- A marble and stone memorial set in a wall niche with straight sides and base and a trefoil shaped top. On a marble horizontal base at midpoint is a stone replica of Lt Forrest's grave stone which consists of a plain cross surmounting a rectangular plinth on a three stepped base with the inscription in black lettering on the sides of the plinth. Below this is the inscription incised and coloured black on a white marble panel with an effigy of a sailor in military uniform with arms reversed on each side.

DOTEREL, / SON OF / CAPTAIN FORREST / CHIEF CONSTABLE OF THIS COUNTY, / AND OF SELINA HIS WIFE; / WHO LOST HIS LIFE BY THE ACCIDENTAL / EXPLOSION OF THE SHIP'S MAGAZINE / AND CONSEQUENT FOUNDERING OF THE SHIP / OFF SANDY POINT IN THE STRAITS OF MAGELLAN / ON THE 26TH DAY OF APRIL 1881, / HIS BODY WAS RECOVERED / AND BURIED IN THE CEMETERY AT / SANDY POINT ON THE 4TH DAY OF JULY.
